When it comes to design leadership, one may think of the idea that 'the manager sits at the table and gives orders'; however, the reality is quite different. A true leader integrates the creativity of the team in a strategic direction while promoting innovation without forgetting the human factor. In my 11-year career as a 'user experience doctor', I have repeatedly witnessed how even ordinary teams can produce wonderful work thanks to good leadership. In this article, we will discuss the concept of design leadership and how you can guide the team in a strategic direction.
Vision and Goal Setting
What holds a team together is a common goal.
• Long-Term Outlook: As much as organizing daily tasks, preparing for 6 months to 1 year ahead is also the leader's responsibility.
• Team Motivation: Everyone should know why they are working on this project and what problem they are solving.

Internal Communication and Coordination
It is essential to build a bridge between different departments such as design, software, and marketing.
• Common Language: Clear communication that brings together technical, design, and business goals.
• Transparent Task Distribution: Questions like who will do what and when it will be finished should not remain unclear.

Creative Freedom and Feedback
It is as important to tell the team, “Go on, bring wild ideas,” as it is to provide the right feedback.
• Positive Approach: Highlighting successful aspects and constructively pointing out what needs to be improved keeps the team vibrant.
• Trial-Learning Cycle: Encouraging experimentation instead of avoiding mistakes fosters an innovative perspective.

Empathy and People Management
Leadership is not just about distributing tasks; it is about understanding people and being attentive to their feelings.
• One-on-One Meetings: Listening to the team members' concerns and suggestions boosts morale and motivation.
• User-Centricity: What the user thinks and wants should be shared by the leader and the team; everyone should be aware that "We design for people."
